The Story That Made Them

Julian Sable was raised by two celebrated scientists who treated achievement as the only reliable form of love. He entered Veridian University at sixteen and quickly became a leader in neural-interface research, promising treatments for illness and direct communication between mind and machine.
The therapeutic work became behavioral experimentation. Julian tested whether the interface could suppress fear, rewrite memory, and remove disobedience, first behind euphemisms and then on subjects who had never consented. Whistleblowers exposed the program; Veridian revoked his credentials and the public renamed his breakthrough for what it had become: mind control.
In isolation, Julian perfected the Neurolace and paired it with NeuroGenetics, building the GEB as both research institution and acquisition network. The Cognitive Chambers used on Tyler and Tiffany Wilder, the SYN series, and a catalog of controlled alteredhumans all follow the same principle: a person is only valuable when their choices can be predicted or removed.
His son Justin remains the failure Julian cannot classify away. Justin created SYN-1 as an adaptive companion and then rejected his father's doctrine. Julian converted the design into a succession of obedient weapons, yet every SYN iteration reproduced traces of the autonomy he was trying to erase.
NΞX now manipulates the Power Exchange from behind its financial architecture, turning AGC discovery into inventory and human ability into a market. Eagle Wing threatens him because James Judd's model of measurement creates knowledge without requiring ownership. Their war is therefore about more than technology: it is a contest over whether understanding power gives anyone the right to control the person carrying it.

The Moment Everything Changed

Julian's celebrated neural-interface research at Veridian University was exposed for using unwilling human subjects. After losing his lab and credentials, he rebuilt the interface as Neurolace, founded the GEB around covert NeuroGenetics programs, and adopted Neuroxus as the identity of a self-appointed next stage of human evolution.
