Who They Were

Dallas Bronson survived Harbor Pointe's back alleys and the Underground Combat Arenas by becoming impossible to model. The Power Exchange turned his fights, injuries, volatility, and sponsorship debt into financial products. His refusal to follow a fixed outcome made him more valuable and put Flux Kid directly in the market's path.

The Story That Made Them

Dallas grew up believing he was simply lucky in fights. A weapon would jam, an opponent would lose footing, or a punch that clearly missed would somehow leave damage a moment later. He built a life around that uncertainty, using jokes, movement, and deliberate unpredictability to survive people who expected obedience.
A near-death underground match exposed the pattern. Dallas realized he could move the force of an impact away from the moment and place where it occurred, then release it later from an angle nobody could defend. The discovery did not make him feel chosen. It made him wonder why Project Øpus records suggested he had never been expected to survive birth.
He became an urban courier and arena fighter because both jobs rewarded someone who could cross hostile territory without following a readable path. The fight circuit gave him the name Sucker Punch as an insult. Dallas kept it, built a neon performance around it, and made the crowd cheer for the same unpredictability managers wanted to control.
The Power Exchange converted that performance into a financial product. Every fight carried outcome contracts, injury premiums, volatility ratings, sponsorship debt, and side exposure Dallas was never allowed to see in full. His handlers did not need to own his body if they could own every consequence surrounding it.
Bad Odds opens with Dallas contracted to lose to Halberd in the third round. The agreement looks like another survivable piece of fine print until he notices Flux Kid's failing stabilization band and realizes the younger fighter has been tied to the same market position. Losing on schedule would protect the Exchange, not the kid.
Dallas wins the fight he was supposed to lose and turns a controlled market event into a volatility crisis. His attempt to protect Flux becomes new collateral, and Corda Venn begins pricing rebellion itself. Dallas finally understands that the Exchange does not need to predict his punch. It only needs leverage over the people he refuses to abandon.
